Kenny “The Snake” Stabler was arrested for DUI in Robertsdale, Alabama early Sunday morning. This is nothing new for the former Alabama/NFL QB who has been arrested for DUI twice before in 1995 and 2001. Before being stopped by police, Stabler was reportedly on his way to meet Marty at the Twin Pines Mall for a late-night “time travel” experiment. [HT to Shades]

Though driving with over-the-limit alcohol is really bad, people should see what is not being said. Notice that the city did not say his alcohol level, why he was pulled over, or why the extra charge of reckless driving. This city is notorious for being a speed trap with on and off the record questions of ethics for many many years. I am in no way in the slightest manner that driving with black-and-white over the messured limit of alcohol is acceptable. I had a friend that died by a drunk driver and I would like to see drunk driver not being able to plea out of offenses, but Robertsdale is one of if not the most shady cities in the state for its good ole boy politics and questionable police tactics. People should ask questions and not necessarily accept what the city and Stabler’s lawyers state is the reason because that might be part of an agreement. What really happened?

I’ll admit Robertsdale is a speedtrap. For all those that don’t know, you have to pass through Robertsdale on your way to the beach (Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL) from I-10. But this was at 2 am on a weekend night so its not like they were trying to catch the tourists heading to the beach and just happened to catch Stabler. Everyone in Alabama knows that Stabler is an alcoholic, particularly the people in and around the Gulf coast/Mobile area. This has happened twice in the past. The real question is how many times has he been pulled over for suspected drunk driving, but not arrested.
