Legend of Powe, Leader of the Band

What redemption looks like

There were several memorable images from Ole Miss’ demon exorcising win in the Swamp on Saturday, there was a Jevan Snead, the quarterback who Urban Meyer once tried to recruit to Florida by telling him that he was only recruiting Tim Tebow as a linebacker, raising his arms in victory.  There was Houston Nutt, drenched in nervous sweat (note to coaching staff: dark blue in Gainesville heat is not recommended, Tracy Rocker looked like he was about to keel over at times) and Gatorade as he ran off the field saluting the Rebel faithful that had made the trip.  Then there was Jerrell Powe, the storied defensive man child doing his best Peyton manning impression (if Peyton was a 300 pound run game constipating grizzly bear) and leading the Ole Miss band in one final Dixie (video here).   Surely a sweet moment for a kid who has gone through all kinds of hurdles to find his way into a Rebel uniform.  You could tell, possibly more anybody else on the Rebel roster, he wanted to win for his school and his state as much as he did for himself, and cherished it more than most.  Its what legends are made of…
