Avoiding Shreveport

Shreveport…not tolerating your fancy movie star hijinks

There are very few things more disheartening among SEC fans than the prospects of spending the bowl season at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana .  But a mediocre season and an 8th place finish in the toughest conference in the land will get you some nice parting gifts and an all expenses paid trip to the Port City.  Teams and fans alike are sure to enjoy the oppressive heat, street violence, and…hey look, casinos!  Every week FOTP will be taking a look at which SEC teams have the best chance of going bowling in  East Texas the third most glamorous city in the Bayou State.

1)  Kentucky.  Some may argue that a 4-0 team will probably avoid the wrath of the Ratchet City for some much more glamorous bowl in, say, Memphis, but Kentucky had the Sisters of the Poor and Deaf lined up the last three weeks.  They finally get themselves involved in an actual college football game this week against surging Bama.

2)  Ole Miss.  Back in the Port City picture after an improbable upset of Superman and the Gators in the Swamp.  The loss has men of faith interceding on Saint Tebow’s behalf, while Rebel fans can see the neon bridge lights at the end of the tunnel.

3)  South Carolina.  Spurrier is starting to flip and flop his quarterbacks again, which is never good when you have a stable of fragile mentalists under center like the Cocks do.  With a loss to Ole MIss this weekend they may just get in under the 6 win wire.

4) Tennessee.  You can’t spell “assault with a deadly weapon” without UT, which means the Vols would fit right in on Shreveport’s mean streets.   If the Vols are relegated to the Indy Bowl, Phil Fulmer may not be there to accept the invitation.

5)  Vandy.  4 wins in the bank and freaking Gameday is setting up shop there this weekend.  It can’t get much better for the Dores right now.  They should be happy with any bowl invite but me thinks success has gone to their head…don’t count out a complete collapse.

Regardless who makes it this year…we are just glad to see that the facilities are in tip top condition…
