A Below Average Photo Essay: A WACtastic Weekend

November 16th, 2008 by · 3 Comments

We took a break from our usual BCS fare to go slumming in the Western Athletic Conference (now with less Mormons!)  as we took in the hotly contested…um contest between the fighting-for-bowl-eligibility-and-an-all-expenses-paid-trip-to-Boise-in-winter Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the generically uniformed Utah State Aggies.  Our pictures of the mid-level football madness follows…

pb150470

Joe Alliet Stadium…like a 5A Texas high school facility without the competent groundskeeping

pb150472

The parking lot next to the stadium 45 minutes before kickoff…catch the excitement!

pb150473

This guy looks familiar but we just can’t put a finger…wait a minute…

pb150475

…its the Mailman!…returning to the scene of the crime, seen here hunting some chicken wings and probably little Mexican girls

pb150476

Louisiana Tech tailgating..kinda like a Southern Baptist pot luck supper

pb150479

We met the mascot…

pb150478

…and some Tech diehards (Road Warrior Hawk on the left there has really let himself go)

pb150484

Literally minutes before kickoff…the announced crowd of 15K+ stands at the ready

pb150485

Rare footage of a college football phenomenon, the male flag twirler

WESTERN Athletic Conference football, in NorthEASTERN Louisiana…as exhilarating as we’d hoped
