Why God hast thou forsaken me, why?!
It’s official. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs have taken the bullet that has pierced the hearts of many an SEC team and fan base over the years, by accepting an invitation to play in this years Independence Bowl…brought to you by no one in particular. It probably not the most attractive trip for Tech, considering Shreveport is an hour bus ride from Ruston, its not like the Bulldogs and their fans haven’t been wowed by the splendor of the Neon Bridge and all of its trappings before, but considering Tech’s alternatives (Humanitarian Bowl in Boise….its cold up there in late December people…and the New Mexico Bowl in Las Cruces, which we assume is a game that is attended by a smattering of fans and several packs of stray dogs) the Port City doesn’t seem like such a bad option.
For the Indy Bowl itself, Louisiana Tech is a saving grace. With the top heavy talent in the Big 12 and SEC this year, there wasn’t much of a shot of getting teams from their tie-ins. The best possible scenario was that there would be more bowl-eligible teams from BCS conferences than there were bowls to take them…such a scenario has played out with the added bonus that the bowl gets the local attraction of La Tech.
So congrats to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs for failing to avoid Shreveport…bowl bound for the first time since Luke McCown was slinging the pill under center and the classy women of Boise formed orderly lines outside various Tech players hotel rooms during the 2001 Humanitarian Bowl…ah the spoils of Bowl season.
And for no good reason, the Louisiana Tech Regal Blues…after the jump
