Avoiding Shreveport

Shreveport…catching you with your pants down

There are very few things more disheartening among SEC than the prospects of spending the bowl season at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana . But a mediocre season and an 8th place finish in the toughest conferences in the land will get you some nice parting gifts and an all expenses paid trip to the Port City. Teams and fans alike are sure to enjoy the oppressive heat, street violence, and…hey look, casinos! But this year it means even more as the shamefully proud Indy Bowl is cutting ties with both the SEC and Big 12, instead choosing to disappoint a whole new batch of fans from the ACC and Mountain West in the coming years. So, its time to get sentimental people! Its the last run in Shreveport for the SEC, so lets make it count! Time to cash in those free Jack Binion’s Horseshoe buffet vouchers before its too late! And to commemorate this last year, every week FOTP will be taking a look at which SEC teams have the best chance of going bowling in East Texas, the third most glamorous city in the Bayou State.

IT’S GEORGIA!

The SEC, Bowl Committees, and whatever oppresive third world dictatorship that is consulted to make the lower tier bowl assignments have rendered a verdict and the official unofficial word has the good fans and hipsters of Athens, Georgia making the trip to the Independence Bowl and the outlying crime infested side streets for the SEC’s final chapter in Shreveport.

Rumors ran wild all day as Auburn had been the heavy favorite all week until they up and unseated the Vols for a trip to the Outback Bowl.  It then to came down to Kentucky and the Dawgs for the trip to the Port City, and late in the afternoon the Tennessean reported that the Music City scooped up Kentucky for what seems like the millionth time, leaving Georgia to fall in the loving yet often sweaty and stray bullet wounded arms of the Port City.

Congratulations to Georgia, for being just good enough, or bad enough to garner the trip…bet you didn’t think that home loss to the Cats could sting any more.  But chin up Dawgs…the FOTP has got your back.  We’ll have a handy dandy guide for your trek West in the coming weeks, you know, the usual, where to eat, where to go out, where to get those fresh knife wounds stitched up at a reasonable price.  Stay tuned.

    Shreveport. Avoided.

Should have known Chavez was a Dawgs fan.

A word of advice, Juice. I would keep your head on a swivel after 12-18 Millers when you’re strolling the boulevard in “Historic Ybor” as well.

I never thought that I’d see Georgia in Shreveport. Ever.

Be honest, Rebels. We all thought that fate and karma would tag team our ass after that Halloween loss to Auburn. It seemed so inevitable that the Indy Bowl’s SEC run would end with the Rebels.

Affirmed. I all but expected it.
