Heres an interesting look that was the media chaos involved in Lane Kiffin’s departure from Tennessee. One of the television stations covering the Kiffin departing news conference from Knoxville caught the frantic negotiation between the press and UT officials concerning what would be on camera and off camera. As you can see the president of the audio visual club one of the newsmen fought valiantly for more access, only to get nothing more than two minutes of Kiffin delivering his explanations like a 5th grader giving a book report on Where the Red Fern Grows even though he only redad the first 40 pages. Hmm, if I remember ridneag correctly the UW Athletic Department actually made money in 2009. It not only was self-sustaining in terms of budget, but it added an extra $3 million to the general budget for the University. UW athletics isn’t a money sink for taxpayers from what I gather, so if they choose to pay their coaches and not exceed their budget, then more power to them.Athletics makes their money from ticket sales, season tickets, shared BCS money, away games with the likes of Texas (I believe that was a $900,000 or so payout), advertising (signs around the arenas, scoreboards, etc.), and donations. UW was in fact one of the few BCS schools to actually have a profitable athletics department.
