Trent Johnson, LSU basketball Coach, secret weapon of the Purple Cobras
To instill a little team spirit, or perhaps release his frustrations on the Tiger fandom, LSU Head basketball Coach Trent Johnson organized a dodgeball tournament with his teams and some of the member of the LSU student spirit group, the Maravich Maniacs. The following missive was sent in promotion of the event…
Hey Maniacs,
In case you haven’t heard yet, it’s officially on! LSU head basketball coach Trent Johnson has challenged the Maravich Maniacs to a Dodgeball Tournament!
We’re going to have a bracket of 16 teams with each team consisting of five Maniacs and one randomly-chosen basketball player. The team that wins the bracket will take on Coach Johnson and his staff in the championship match. Hurry because the bracket is filling up quickly and you don’t want to be left on the outside looking!
To sign up just send an email with your name and the names of anyone you want on your team to promotions@lsu.edu. The tournament will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 6th starting at 4pm.
Afterwards, everyone in the tournament is invited to a special reception with Coach Johnson. There will be free food and drinks and Coach Johnson will be there to talk about the season and answer everyone’s questions.
You might wonder if Trent Johnson took it easy on the fans, but the above picture and his history of a quick temper (personal anecdote sidebar: While sitting at the scoreers table, I once saw him turn around to an unruly fan who was calling his player, Kirk Snyder, a thug and tell him, in no uncertain terms to “Sit down you fat fuck”.) answers in the negative.
