Horrible news today out of Jacksonville concerning current Alabama and former Tennessee offensive lineman Aaron Douglas, who was found dead in a Jacksonville beachhouse this morning. no news as to cause of death at this point, but thankfully, ESPN was there to focus on the most important aspects of this tragedy, its impact on the Albama depth chart.

That’s a new and improved kind of dumb. Piece of shit better be updating his resume right now.

[...] Lin followed his instincts to the really important story angle: What the 21-year-old’s demise means for the Crimson Tide’s left tackle position this [...]

It’s a valid news story. Did I ever meet this kid? No. Was I ever going to meet this kid? No. Do I know anybody who would ever meet this kid? No.
People die all the time. The only reason this death is publicized at all is because he was a college athlete. Therefore, it’s proper, if you are a sports reporting agency, to report on the potential ramifications from an athletic standpoint. Tossing an empty “RIP” into the ether accomplishes nothing, and let’s be honest: The vast majority of us will forget this story ever happened within a couple of days, or what this kid’s name even was. We’re not going to lose any sleep over it tonight.
So why is it wrong to focus on something that people will remember, like who the new starter is?

Kaitlyn, you have obviously lost some perspective on the value of a human life. It was insensitive an ill-timed.

I happen to know Albert Lin. He is a wonderful person, and one of the most considerate people I know. The fact that he may have trivialized someone’s death is a separate issue to what he’s like as a person. Making ad hominem atttacks only shows what you are like at your core — rotten! Everyone makes mistakes. He obviously didn’t read the article the way that everyone is now taking it.

Kaitlyn – the point is that there is NO NEW STARTER- Lin just was speculating. If he needs to speculate it really ISN’T news so why not give a moment of respect to a very young talented life that was lost.

With all due respect, Kaitlyn, I think you’ve been around the “ether” a little too long. Both “articles” were tactless and indefensible mistakes. If there is debate, let it be over the punishment.

Kaitlyn, you should be ashamed. You don’t lead with how it’s going to effect the Tahd.
Does his death effect the football team? Yes. But you show he and his family the respect any human would and show remorse that a 21 year old kid died. You don’t use it as a fucking recruiting tool.

I agree with Kaitlyn. You guys have no idea what your talking about. Human life has lil to no value in media. It’s all about getting a story and publicity.
If anyone cared about a single life so much, i sure didn’t see not one american say ” its sad to see OBL murdered”, everyone one of our first reaction was like “Hell Ya” and were happy to see a human life taken. So pls don’t post your self righteous bs about the value of life cause a human life is a human life no matter who it is.

Kaitlyn should be tortured to death. If I didn’t care about my life I would definitely enjoy taking hers.

Aaron Douglas = Osama bin Laden? Really, Chad? Quite possibly the dumbest thing I’ve read in months.

Well, he did play for the tide, so maybe the OBL comparison deserves a little leeway. The Lin comments were inexcusable. He may be the nicest person in the world, but he was hitting the crack pipe if he thought those comments were OK.
