The SEC, following a bit of a ball-spotting controversy during the Ole Miss-Alabama game over the weekend, has issued the following statement regarding the incident and, in a shocking turn of events, all future call and/or disputed calls involving Alabama this season…and frankly, any season going forward….

I have not been happy with Mike Slive since they hired him away from conference C-USA. He is getting credit for bringing in Missouri and Texas A & M as if this was some genius idea. Part of the reason for driving that through, in my opinion, was to put something under his name, as if this was some great accomplishiment. He really has not done anything since takng the position after the retirement of Roy Kramer. Lets make this clear. The move to bring in 2 “outsiders” does not put him in the same league as Kramer nor does it make him a great commissioner. Other than the lame decision to bring 2 “outsiders” into our conference the thing that Slive has done more of than anything else is take the side of referees. Several times since he took the position, he has come to their defense and reprimanded coaches and other personnel for criticizing them. That is wrong. They should be held accountable and exposed for the bad calls which effect young men busting their tails to win. No matter how bad the calls are, he always comes out making some sort of comment about how he does not want coaches to say anything about it or as in this case….basically say….”deal with it!” This is more proof to me that he is basically lame and has enjoyed the stature of being the SEC Commissioner without earning it. He is no Roy Kramer and this last call on his part is typical of his presence, since he came over from CONFERENCE USA! It is not the SEC.

Tripp,
Slive should support his referees even when they make bad calls. In private is the time to reprimand them and hold them accountable. Everything shouldn’t be public. I’ve been impressed with what Slive has done as commissioner. 6 straight BCS championships for the SEC and also he was the driving force behind the playoff system. Texas A&M is a great fit for the SEC however I do agree with you that Missouri is somewhat of an outsider. But overall Slive has been good for the conference.

Tripp,
No, Slive is a good businessman and has brought in millions to SEC by inviting Texas A&M and Missouri. Now that is a genius idea.
