Over the weekend, two Ole Miss students, and siblings, John and Sarah Wheat, were killed on Highway 6 when a car coming the other way crossed the median and hit the Wheats’ car head on. It’s a terrible tragedy in every way possible. I didn’t know John personally, but, when I saw the news of the wreck, I recognized the name as the same John Wheat who was an avid reader of FOTP and someone who had often interacted with myself and other like-minded SEC folks on Twitter. One of those folks who had interaction with John on Twitter was our old buddy Rick Muscles. Rick came up with a great way to honor John’s memory that I ‘m fully supporting and ask that you do the same. As John was an Ole Miss student and a Rebel fan, we’d ask that you consider donating $10 to the University of Ole Miss Athletic Administration in John’s name. It’s a small gesture but I think John would have appreciated it. You can go here for the various ways to donate. Thanks.

Melanie Addington first suggested it over on Facebook tonight, but I couldn’t agree more: Sarah was a member of the Ole Miss Lacrosse team (and a dear friend); a donation in either (or both) of their names would be a magnificent tribute to an athletic department that was beloved by their entire family.
