Thumbs way up for our new Winter Hero

The man pictured above is Professional Snowboarder Danny Davis (not to be confused with former Hart Foundation member, Dangerous Danny Davis). He does ridiculous stuff like this. He happened to be in Breckenridge, Colorado at the same time I was last week. He was there for the Winter Dew Tour event there that weekend. I happened to sit at the table next to him at dinner Friday night and watched him part his epic mustache long enough to down a plate of spare ribs and throw a couple of conversational bones to the flock of blonde snow bunny groupies that had joined he and his friends at their table. That public display of brahsomeness alone would be good enough to garner some FOTP love, but then me and my dining mates went to Wikipedia to do a little background reading on our new friend. The following discovery was made.

Danny Davis suffered blows to the pelvis and spine caused by the misuse of an All Terrain Vehicle. He was in contention for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. Davis was riding extremely well and had scored ahead of Shaun White. Davis was unaware of his number one qualifying spot for the 2010 Games that he went out and partied hard just knowing he had gotten a 1st place finish. While intoxicated he had driven an All Terrain Vehicle into an iron gate. His lumbar vertebrae two, three, and four were fused together and screws have been placed throughout his shattered pelvis.

Yes, the man ruined his Olympic chances, after he had all but qualified for the team by winning the qualifying event, by partying too hard and consequently crashing an ATV into an iron gate and jacking up his back and pelvis. That’s the kind of reckless abandon and utter disregard for good sense and self control that I can firmly get behind. The sweet ass mustache is just a bonus.

FOTP’s new Winter Hero…Danny Davis.

Briscoe County, not just a place, but a state of mind

Much has been made for the unmitigated failure that NBC’s Olymoic coverage has been. Between the embarrassing tape delays where the network pretends its all news to you even though you knew the results 4 hours ago, and the decisions to run figure skating ad nauseum while live hockey, curling, and the likes were relegated to various news and financial channels, its been a less than stellar effort by the network.

If that were not enough, now comes the revelation that even the Olympic theme music was a hack job. As evidenced above, the Olympic intro and outro music that NBC used was stolen straight from failed 90′s prime time westerns…and more importantly, Bruce Campbell (and possibly Comet the horse). You start ripping off the fine work of Ash, and we’ve got problems.

[HT: The Mayor...who may have been the only person that knew that was the Briscoe County Jr. theme song]

The blog has been pretty sparse on the Winter Olympics front. And I apologize for that, I was raised by a warm weather people. Let me begin the healing process with the following story.

A naked sledging event in Germany’s Harz region created a logistical nightmare over the weekend after 14,000 people showed up to watch 30 men and women strip before sliding down the mountain.

Normally the gentle slope in front of Braunlage’s town hall is a pretty quiet place during the winter. Beginning skiers practice their first turns, parents plop their children on sleds, and pensioners take some air.

But the scene was quite different on Saturday, when thousands unexpectedly turned out for a nearly naked sledging contest sponsored by a radio station.

At this point in the post, you should be asking “Are there more pictures of this event that I can see, preferrably ones of hot girls sledding topless down a mountain in Germany?” Well, yes, yes there are (NSFW).
